About Squaredle
Why I Built This
I've loved Boggle since I was a kid — that little plastic grid of lettered dice, the sixty-second timer, everyone scrambling to trace out every word they could find by connecting adjacent letters before the sand ran out. It's one of those rare games where being fast and being right are the same skill. When Wordle turned into a global daily ritual a few years later, I loved it for a completely different reason: one puzzle, the same for everyone, solved in a couple of minutes, then you're done until tomorrow — no grinding, no FOMO, just a small satisfying thing you do once a day. Squaredle's Daily mode is my attempt to put those two things together: Boggle's adjacent-letter word search, run on Wordle's one-puzzle-a-day rhythm — free, with nothing to sign up for.
What Squaredle's Daily Actually Is
Every day's puzzle is a letter grid with a set of words hidden inside it — some straightforward, some hiding in plain sight. Drag across adjacent letters, including diagonally, to trace out a word; find every word in the grid and the puzzle's solved. As you clear words, letters no longer needed by anything left to find fade away, so the board gets more irregular — and a little more satisfying to look at — the further you get. Stuck on the last few? Fifteen free hints a day will reveal the front half of a random unfound word to nudge you along.
Where This Style of Puzzle Comes From
The core mechanic — tracing a word by connecting adjacent letters on a grid — goes back to Boggle, first published by Parker Brothers in 1972: shake a box of lettered dice, drop them into a 4×4 tray, and find as many words as you can before time runs out. Squaredle's Daily borrows that grid and that adjacency rule directly, but swaps Boggle's personal timer and private scorecard for a single shared daily puzzle — the same one for everyone, growing in size through the week, from a small 4×4 grid on Monday up to a 7×7 by Sunday.
